We had quite an experience last night. My brother phoned me at about midnight to tell me it was snowing! This may seem very pedestrian to those of you living in the northern hemisphere but Johannesburg is usually pretty temperate. The last time we saw real snow (the kind that makes the ground go white) was around 1981. So anyway, we looked out the window and sure enough it was snowing and there was a storm brewing.
Today the weather really turned colder and while it may warm up a little in the coming days, winter is definitely on the way. I like winters in Joburg because the sky is typically clear and a deeper blue than the rest of the year so the chill takes on this fresh quality. Even in autumn, the trees are more colourful against the deep blue backdrop. The downside of course is that it is darn cold here!
This is more for my fellow South Africans. A friend of mine's brother has opened a new Vida e Caffe store in Rosebank next to the First National Bank across the way from the Rosebank Mall. The store opened on Friday and this morning was a continuation of the celebrations.
The store was pretty busy and I snapped this photo with my phone. We popped in after we had finished our shopping and spent some time with our friend's family who were there for the opening. We were even given a free coffee! So if you happen to be nearby, pop across for a pretty decent cafe experience.
