We had quite an experience last night. My brother phoned me at about midnight to tell me it was snowing! This may seem very pedestrian to those of you living in the northern hemisphere but Johannesburg is usually pretty temperate. The last time we saw real snow (the kind that makes the ground go white) was around 1981. So anyway, we looked out the window and sure enough it was snowing and there was a storm brewing.
I have talked about them so much and there are so many videos and photos of them on the Web and I realised I haven't actually introduced our little furry bundles of joy, Salami, Bandit and Stuart ... until now:
I have been hoping I would have an opportunity to take decent photos of the puppies for a while and on the weekend all three of them jumped onto the one bed in what will be Sprout's bedroom and I managed to take three fairly decent photos in which they were all looking at me in two of them. Here is my favourite:
The other two photos weren't too bad though:
The puppy in the blue jersey is Bandit. Stuart is on the left behind Bandit and Salami is on the right. We will get jerseys for the other two in the next week or so.
I'm sitting in my garden with the puppies. Just thought I'd shoot a short video of them wandering around.
I shot this video this morning. The puppy on the right is Bandit and the one on the left (and growling) is Stuart. The two boys tend to go for the same bowl and Stu gets really territorial about his bowl. Bandit doesn't really give a stuff and keeps going for the bowl so Stu moves it away from Bandit. Ultimately they both wind up eating from the same bowl quite happily.
I woke up this morning, let the puppies out and saw this heavy fog outside.
One thing for sure, the puppies are starting to feel the cold. They are more reluctant to get out of bed in the mornings and when they do get out of bed they are starting to hang around me, shivering, rather than lying outside in the sunshine. The other day I was working at my desk and I noticed the three of them lying under my desk, piled on top of each other. They were obviously really cold so I went and brought them their duvet (yup, our puppies have their own duvet on their bed (two really big continental dog cushions with fleecy blankets spread over the cushions with the duvet on top - they burrow under the duvet and curl up) and laid it out on the floor. They were on it in a flash and curled up.
The pups had a romp on the bed this afternoon.
I'm watching old episodes of Dexter while I get through my feeds, a couple proposals and some other work. I snapped this photo of the puppies lazing in the sunlight on the couch.
We just had a bizarre experience with our puppies. Salami was acting up earlier. She was standing by the hall stand where we hang their harnesses (for walking) and leads, growling and crying. At first I thought there was some bug there or a lizard they couldn't reach (we have a few of both around in the garden) so we paused TV and took a look and there was nothing there. By this time all three of them were at the hall stand crying so I took the leads and harnesses off the hall stand and put them in a box to see if that is what they were fixated on. Turns out it was so we put their harnesses on and left them to play (ie drag each other around by their harnesses).
We went back to our TV and soon they were back at the hall stand crying. When we finished what we were watching we took down their leads and put them on and sure enough the three of them ran to the gate to the driveway as if they were going out in the car so Gina got her car keys and we packed them into the car and drove them up and down the driveway a couple times. That seems to have been exactly what they wanted because we brought them back inside, took their harnesses and leads off and they were calm.
Talk about a bizarre experience. They just wanted to go for a drive in the car ...
